Wouldn’t it be nice to have a friend by your side during a career transition? Someone to celebrate your successes, or give you a pep talk when you feel stuck? TripleTen students juggle a lot while completing their bootcamps. And sometimes, they just need to feel like someone “gets it” and can remind them of their goals. That’s where TripleTen’s learning coaches come in. Coach Nana Khmaladze reflected on what it’s like to support students during the highs and lows of completing a bootcamp.

About Nana

How did Nana end up working as a learning coach? Her background in sales and customer support trained her in problem solving and talking to people. When she found out about TripleTen, Nana says, “I was impressed by the company's mission, that they were providing access to tech education and helping people transform their careers. It's amazing.” She could see how her previous skills could combine at TripleTen to make a difference in people’s lives by supporting them through the intense weeks of bootcamp.

Nana lights up when she talks about her job; she genuinely loves helping students.

It’s an amazing feeling, really, and I can't even imagine how exciting it is for the students entering their new field. Nana Khmaladze, TripleTen’s learning coach

What does a learning coach do?

Students book a call with Nana when they first commit to starting a bootcamp. Nana gives students a warm welcome and helps them get started. She ensures they know how to use the learning materials, access tutorsMeet the TripleTen Tutors: Ulyana Yeryksonava and fellow students, and find all the resources TripleTen offers.

Nana will also ask in detail about the student’s schedule. Do they work full-time? Do they have children or other family obligations? Based on that conversation, she helps students create a realistic study schedule3 Strategies to Balance Your Life and Studies Like a Pro they can steadily maintain while working through the bootcamp materials. “I’d say 99% of our students are full-time workers,” says Nana. “So it's going to be challenging to balance that with a bootcamp. Students understand that, but my job as a learning coach is to reassure them and figure out the best schedule for them. It helps them feel a lot calmer.”

Throughout their bootcamp journey, Nana checks in on students, whether to give them a pep talk or reassess their schedule. Nana says, “My goal is to help them to stay motivated, feel confident with their abilities, and succeed in completing the bootcamp.” Nana is part of the larger TripleTen community of supportIt’s About Community: What Sets TripleTen Apart, which includes tutors, code reviewers, and career coaches, all of whom work together to help students succeed.

Beyond practical support

Nana’s role is officially called “learning coach,” but she could just as well be called a “cheerleader”, “encourager”, and “problem solver.”

“Life isn't easy,” says Nana. “So I want to remind people that it’s not just about the technical support that we offer here. I’m also here to emotionally support them, to help them with their well-being because this is also very important.”

One way she does that is by listening closely and offering sympathy, while reminding students of their goals. Burnout is real, and Nana gently guides students back to why they signed up for the bootcamp to begin with: “Sometimes, you need to concentrate again on why you are here. Because you had a goal when you joined, right? You wanted to change your career.”

In Nana’s words, it can make a huge difference just to hear, “It's okay to feel overwhelmed. You are not alone.”
